Kalaloch Beach, WA
September 2024

Synopsis
Our last hoorah for summer was at Kalaloch Beach. We managed to score a really nice campsite at the campground. And spent the weekend enjoying the sandy beaches under the waning sunlight and wandering the tidepools to the north of the campground. We also visited the nearby Ruby Beach and the large cedar, which we never really saw in proper lighting (all previous visits were either in the dark or during very rainy conditions). Moon and lionmanes jellies were washed up on the beach as well as a stranded Surf Scoter. But scoping the waters offshore revealed at least 4 sea otters, many porpoise and seals, as well as alcids, grebes, cormorants, scoters, pelicans and plenty of gulls. It was a wonderful escape from the city. And easy to escape the crowds if you are willing to walk half a mile from a beach entrance.
